8:00 AM — Hotel Pickup & Transfer to Lake Duluti

Your guide collects you from your Arusha hotel at 8:00 AM. Enjoy a scenic 30-minute drive through the green farmlands of the Rift Valley floor. Arrive at Lake Duluti by 8:30 AM. Meet your canoeing guide, receive a safety briefing and life jackets, and prepare for your first activity on the water.

8:30 AM – 10:00 AM — Canoeing on Lake Duluti

Step into a two-person canoe and paddle across the tranquil waters of this volcanic crater lake. The lake is approximately 1.2 km wide, giving you plenty of space to explore at a relaxed pace. Glide beneath towering forest canopy, watch kingfishers dart between reeds, and listen for the distinctive call of the African fish eagle echoing off the crater walls.

3 Stop

10:00 AM – 11:15 AM — Guided Nature Walk & Bird Watching

After returning the canoes, follow your guide on a guided nature walk along the crater rim trail. The well-maintained path winds through dense Afromontane forest, past moss-covered boulders, and through thickets alive with butterflies and forest birds. The trail climbs gently to the crater rim, offering sweeping panoramic views over the lake, the surrounding farmland, and on clear days the distant snow-capped peak of Mount Meru.

4 Stop

11:15 AM – 12:00 PM — Return to Arusha

After completing the nature walk, enjoy a hot beverage and light snacks at the lakeshore before being transferred back to your Arusha hotel. Arrive by midday — leaving you the rest of the afternoon free for shopping, dining, or preparing for your next adventure in Tanzania.

Visa & Entry

No special permits are required for Lake Duluti. Most nationalities need a Tanzanian tourist visa (USD 50) which can be obtained on arrival at JRO airport or online via the e-visa portal.

Canoe Safety

All canoes are stable two-person vessels. Life jackets are provided and mandatory. No prior canoeing experience is necessary — your guide will provide a full briefing.

Best Time to Go

Available year-round. Early morning offers the best bird watching and calmest water. The dry season (June–October) provides the clearest views from the crater rim.
