Trip Itinerary

1 Stop

6:00 AM — Hotel Pickup in Arusha

Your driver-guide collects you from your hotel in Arusha (or Moshi on request) at 6:00 AM. Travel south through the Maasai steppe in a comfortable, air-conditioned 4x4 safari vehicle. The scenic drive takes approximately 2.5 hours, passing traditional Maasai bomas, acacia woodland, and open savannah.

8:30 AM — Arrive at Tarangire — Morning Game Drive

Enter Tarangire National Park and begin your morning game drive along the Tarangire River. This is the park's most productive zone — the permanent water source draws massive concentrations of wildlife. Elephant families congregate along the river in herds of 50 to 200+, providing extraordinary photographic opportunities.

3 Stop

12:30 PM — Picnic Lunch Inside the Park

Enjoy a freshly prepared picnic lunch at a scenic designated picnic site within the park, often with views over the river or open plains. Take time to stretch, relax, and absorb the sounds of the African bush.

4 Stop

1:30 PM — Afternoon Game Drive

After lunch, continue your game drive into the park's southern and eastern sectors, exploring areas that receive fewer visitors and offer excellent chances of encountering lions, cheetahs, and large herds of wildebeest and zebra. The afternoon light is ideal for photography, and the cooling temperatures bring animals back to activity after the midday rest.

5 Stop

4:30 PM — Depart Tarangire → Return to Arusha

Exit Tarangire National Park and begin the scenic drive back to Arusha, arriving at your hotel by early evening (approximately 6:30–7:00 PM). The return drive passes through the same beautiful Maasai countryside, and your guide is happy to stop for any last photo opportunities.

Visa & Entry

Most nationalities need a Tanzanian tourist visa (USD 50, or USD 100 for US passports). You can apply online or get a visa on arrival at JRO. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months.

Travel Insurance

Comprehensive travel insurance with medical and evacuation cover is strongly recommended. Ensure your policy covers day trips and 4x4 game drives.

Health & Vaccinations

Yellow fever certificate is required if arriving from a yellow fever country. Anti-malaria prophylaxis is recommended for all safari destinations. Consult a travel clinic 6–8 weeks before departure.

Payment & Deposits

A 30% deposit confirms your booking; the balance is due on the day of the safari. We accept bank transfer, mobile money, and card (3% fee). Free cancellation up to 48 hours before departure.

Tipping

Tipping is customary and appreciated. Guidelines are shared in your pre-trip pack — typically USD 10–15 per person for your guide for the day trip.

Group Size & Privacy

This day trip runs in groups of 2 – 12. Private departures with your own vehicle and guide are available on request — ask us for a custom quote.

Safari Vehicles

All game drives are conducted in private custom-built 4x4 Land Cruisers with pop-up roofs for unobstructed photography, window charging ports, and refrigerated water coolers.

Best Time to Go

Year-round destination. Dry season (June–October) offers peak game viewing with massive elephant concentrations. Green season (November–May) delivers lush landscapes and excellent birding.
