Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Arusha & Visit to Maasai Market or Serval Wildlife Sanctuary

Your 6 Days Grumeti River Wildlife Safari begins in Arusha, the safari capital of Tanzania. After arrival, our friendly driver-guide will meet you at the airport and take you to your lodge for check-in. Depending on your arrival time, you will have the option to visit the Arusha Maasai Market, where you can explore colorful handmade crafts and souvenirs, or go to the Serval Wildlife Sanctuary, a peaceful place to see rescued animals like giraffes, zebras, and elands up close. In the evening, relax at your hotel and enjoy a warm welcome dinner before your big safari adventure begins tomorrow. Overnight at Tulia Boutique Hotel & Spa or a similar mid-range lodge in Arusha.

Day 2: Arusha to Central Serengeti

After breakfast, you will drive to the world-famous Serengeti National Park through the Ngorongoro highlands. On arrival, you’ll start your first game drive across the Central Serengeti, known for its big cat population and large herds of wildlife. You’ll explore the open plains filled with zebras, giraffes, elephants, and prides of lions resting under acacia trees. Dinner and overnight at Embalakai Camp or Tanzania Bush Camps Central Serengeti.

Day 3: Central Serengeti to Western Serengeti (Grumeti Region)

Today, you’ll journey to the Western Serengeti, following the path of the Great Migration. The Grumeti area becomes a major gathering point between May and July as thousands of wildebeests and zebras cross the Grumeti River, facing huge Nile crocodiles waiting in the water. The western corridor is also home to leopards, hippos, and buffaloes, making it a paradise for wildlife photographers. In the evening, enjoy a peaceful dinner and overnight stay at Grumeti Hills Tented Lodge or Mbalageti Tented Lodge.

Day 4: Full Day Safari in the Grumeti River Area

This day is dedicated to exploring the Grumeti River region, one of the most dramatic wildlife areas in Tanzania. After an early breakfast, you will head out for a full-day game drive with a packed picnic lunch. You’ll have the chance to witness the Great Migration river crossing and the intense predator-prey interactions that make this area so famous. Your guide will take you through different habitats, from riverbanks filled with hippos to woodlands where elephants roam freely. Return in the evening for dinner and overnight at Grumeti Hills Tented Lodge.

Day 5: Grumeti to Ngorongoro Crater

After breakfast, depart from the Serengeti and drive toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Along the way, you’ll enjoy game viewing and scenic landscapes dotted with Maasai villages. In the afternoon, descend 600 meters into the Ngorongoro Crater, a natural wonder often called the “Eighth Wonder of the World.” The crater floor hosts a rich variety of animals — lions, elephants, zebras, buffaloes, and even rare black rhinos. After your safari, you will ascend to the rim for dinner and overnight at Rhino Lodge Ngorongoro.

Day 6: Ngorongoro to Arusha

After breakfast, enjoy one last view of the Ngorongoro Crater before beginning your drive back to Arusha. On the way, you may stop at local markets or the Cultural Heritage Center for souvenirs and Tanzanite shopping. Upon arrival in Arusha, your safari will end with memories of breathtaking landscapes, unforgettable wildlife, and the great migration along the Grumeti River.
